WHY WIKIPEDIA MATTERS TO YOU!
A dramatically changing dynamic has surfaced in the recruitment and selection of C-Suite executives and corporate board candidates, from the legal profession, according to EOLIS’ January trend study. Public profile and social media presence matters more than ever before for lawyers who aspire to participate in the most senior and sophisticated in the business world.
More than 90% of the 200 respondents–corporate board members on nominating and vetting committees — said they use Wikipedia as a reference material in their process to identify attorney prospects and candidates to fill potential board seats and more than 75% expressed a decided preference for candidates with publicly documented careers, citing a suitably footnoted Wikipedia listing as “highly desirable.”
While EOLIS’ findings are intended only to provide indicators and do not reflect formal market research, we believe the information obtained from this study leads toward an inevitable conclusion: Wikipedia is being treated as an increasingly credible resource, and it presents new opportunities for law firms and lawyers that qualify for listing references. The development of a viable Wikipedia submission is dependent on the availability of publicly verifiable information pertaining to subject matter presented.

WENDEEN “PERFORMS” AT THE FRIARS CLUB!
Members of the elite Women’s Forum of New York gathered, in advance of International Women’s Day, for a unique seminar: Power Poker from the Board Room to the Card Room, presented by Wendeen Eolis, at the Friars Club. Wendeen’s lessons in empowerment got under way quickly with revelations about negotiating strategies, particularly as they apply to women. To prove her points, Wendeen called upon three eager attendees. After a quick review of their “biographies,” she guessed, instantly, the favorite negotiating strategy for each one of them.
Relying upon her extensive expertise as an entrepreneur, interviewer and deal maker in business, as well as her career in politics and government, Wendeen entertained as she educated her colleagues on the application of business principles to the game of poker. She knows from whence she speaks.Wendeen was the first woman to cash, in the Main Event of the World Series of Poker. She counts 10 record setting performances for a woman in major competitions around the world and competes on Poker Night in America (CBS Sports), in her spare time. She says, “poker is a mind-bending game of bets, raises, calls, and folds that is only sometimes played with cards,” while making the case that women win more by bluffing less than men.
Using her theories on “negotiating DNA” and her 12 Point System for People Reading Excellence, Wendeen offered tips and tells throughout the evening, which was capped with a No Limit Texas Hold’em game. She was assisted with her lessons at the tables by her hand-picked tutors–businessmen who play poker winning poker against pros of the game. They were the only men in the room!
With crib notes that reviewed the basic rules in hand, they began to practice “desirable hand selection,” before betting their chips with gusto. The woman with the most chips at the end of the evening was feted, with a bottle of pink champagne! Wendeen closed the program adding more people reading insights that travel well back to the office, including her foolproof tip to determine, within seconds of a greeting, if a person is happy to meet you.

BROTHERS DON-TRUMP AND MCGAHN
While the public hears, daily, from media and political pundits about the new President’s contingent of advisors in the West Wing– the name Don McGahn, Chief White House Counsel has yet to evoke a serious riffle. But it is McGahn, who is likely to be in the center of any firestorm over conflict of interest issues effectively hoisted against President Trump. Mr. McGahn has quietly charted the course of sticky legal wickets that have confronted the president since the inception of his campaign. He landed perfectly in the fray over efforts to keep Mr. Trump from getting on the ballot in the 2016 New Hampshire primary, back in the days of January 2016. Indeed, at that moment he opted for a policy of discrete determination rather than a bombastic show, as any self-respecting Jones Day lawyer might be expected to do.
President Donald Trump and Attorney Donald McGahn, connected only from afar until a year ago, at this point look like two peas in a pod on a mission. Mr. McGahn may prove to be the President’s most important and most impactful relationship in the West Wing of the White House. Stay tuned for a further report.

PEP PRINCIPLE WINS BIG
Asking productive questions is a key element to an effective negotiating strategy in business, politics, and card rooms.—where I have spent a fair share of my spare time.
Children frequently blurt out whatever questions come into their heads, unnerving adults by their brash simplicity and clarity. More often than not, they ask basic questions designed to understand facts, and context or to challenge parental authority: They easily inquire, “Why are you asking?” and “What do you mean?” These queries are among the most powerful probes.
At virtually every negotiating table, gaining leverage and making deals is dependent in large measure by proficiency in the use of the PEP Principle. Job seekers, especially senior level candidates are equally well-served to pay close attention to this principle, as errors are generally more costly in direct proportion to one’s age, experience, and perceived sophistication.
Put the PEP Principle to Work
Probe, evaluate, and perform accordingly—PEP—combines the use of appropriate questions for specific situations, with analysis of answers from different vantage points. PEP calls for logic and common sense in the development of information. It also emphasizes the use of practical strategies to gage the relevance and credibility of responses. Lawyers are known to be faithful to this principle, on behalf of clients; not so much on their own behalf in the career transition process.
The keys to mastering the PEP principle, as a job seeker, reside in the career journey. “Seamless presentation of the major decisions along the way unlock opportunities for the broadest range of new adventures, ” says Wendeen Eolis, CEO of EOLIS. In a new interactive seminar series open to the public as well as one-one one collaborative aching sessions for senior level lawyers and leading executives, Wendeen explores the power of the PEP Principle at every stage of the search process.
